Institute for Provocation welcomes you to the third in our series of talks in collaboration with Today Art Museum in Beijing. Under the headline "cross-disciplinary approaches", two speakers whose artistic practices overlap in one way or another will introduce their works to the audience and to each other. The presentations will be followed by a discussion around the topics emerging from their respective works.
Harmony or Disruption - Installation Art as Spatial Condenser
In recent years installation art has gone from being sculptural interventions in space to becoming total integrated environments which aim to change our common perception of space. Works by contemporary artists such as Mike Nelson, Thomas Saraceno and Olafur Eliasson invite the public to experience space that is modified through either subtle means such as repetition or reproduction to new configurations and materials which open up a new physical awareness.
Speakers:
Maurice Bogaert is an Amsterdam-based artist. In recent years he has been developing a series of works that engage, with something he calls “filmic architecture. In these works, he explores the relationships between scale models, sets, architecture, narrative and the moving image.
Beijing-based artist <b>He An</b> creates site-specific installations and environments which trigger our sense of relationship between body and space. His works often incorporate volatile materials from everyday life and play with our understanding of permanent and transient.
The presentations will be followed by a discussion moderated by Max Gerthel, architect and program director of IFP.
