Crossings, CCD Workstation, Beijing, 24 sept - 12 oct 2008
Since its first edition in 2005, Crossings has grown into a pioneering independent festival in Beijing, providing a stage for contemporary dance theatre with an experimental signature.
Anno 2008, the festival has expanded into a consortium of small-scale festivals and collaborations in Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming and most recently Shenzhen.
Organized by Living Dance Studio at the Caochangdi (CCD) Workstation, in close collaboration with Dutch organization Borneoco / CultureXpress, this year's festival has brought work from emerging Chinese and European choreographers (within the framework of the Chin-A-Moves exchange program), the new Living Dance Company performance as well as work from German choreographer Angie Hiesl and Andre Gingras from the Netherlands. All of them were also involved in lecture and workshop programs.
Next to these performances, Crossings has presented new documentary work from Chinese independent filmmakers, and a focus on documentary filmmakers Peter Liechti (Switzerland) and Frank Scheffer (The Netherlands). Still to come are Janine Dijkmeijer's selection of Cinedans dance movies, and the lecture of special Cinedans guest Ria Marks on the art of dance for camera.
